If you can today, pray for this situation.
Why? Because we should pray for all these situations. But also because Burnside contributor Diane Nienhuis is a teacher at Creston High School. We hope she (and the rest of the students and staff) stays safe if the situation doesn’t cool down.
Here’s a letter from Diane before she saw the above news article. It’s pretty harrowing.
There was a shooting yesterday after school at 3:10. A student fired
a gun into the air as he walked out of the building. This morning at 9:20 we went into “CODE RED LOCKDOWN” which means all
students have to hide against the wall of their classroom. There are
times throughout the year that we do this as a drill but it takes like
15-20 minutes. This one lasted an hour and now we have upgraded to a
code yellow which means kids are still in my class (they are my 1st
hour class but we are supposed to be in the middle of 2 hour). I’ve
had my 1st hour kids since 8:15 and it’s nearly 10:30.I have no idea what is going on in the building right now. My guess is
that this is not a drill but something quite real.My nerves are completely shot and I am on the verge of crying, but I
don’t want to cry in front of these kids.
UPDATE: School is being released, and the students are being ushered out to waiting school buses. Everyone will have to go through a metal detector.

Praying for you Diane, that you and the students stay safe and that someone will reach out to the kids who might be thinking violence. We forget sometimes they need prayer too. God’s in control.
Wow! I did not hear about this. Diane, i’m sorry you had to go through that. Jordan – Thanks for the local news report! Great new site BTW.
