For a long time, grafitti got a bad rap.  It was thought of as nothing more than vandalism. These days, street artists are getting more positive recognition, but perhaps because it’s become a more acceptable artform, it’s become a bit, well, stagnant.  See, part of the appeal of graffiti is its vibrancy — the way it feels like the freshly sprayed paint is still dripping wet.  It’s as if you can feel the movement of the paint.  After all, graffiti usually doesn’t have a chance to become too old and faded since the authorities try to remove it as soon as it’s discovered.

That’s why Muto is so appealing.  Through animation, street art turns to life.  It moves and transforms, and becomes something you can’t stop watching. Street artist Blu, with the assistance of Sibe, animates (and, of course, carefully edits) graffiti on walls in Buenos Aires and Baden in the Mercurio Films produced film Muto. It’s like something a child would imagine while adults hurry on, turning a blind eye.

Banksy’s (UK street artist) work inspired me to try graffiti for a few nights while living in Chicago. I love your line “the way it feels like the freshly sprayed paint is still dripping wet. It’s as if you can feel the movement of the paint. After all, graffiti usually doesn’t have a chance to become too old and faded since the authorities try to remove it as soon as it’s discovered.”
My ‘work’ was gone in a few days, but it didn’t matter too much because I wasn’t that good, but it was a thrilling experience nonetheless, and it gave me an appreciation of street hard. It’s a lot harder than it looks…and the creativity factor is unbelievable.

Lovely video. But this article is too short! Graffiti is a beautiful thing, it deserves more than 2 paragraphs.
Put ‘Bomb It’ at the top of your Netflix queue, it’s a wonderful documentary about graffiti culture around the world. It’ll show you just how much of an art form graffiti really is.
