The Magical Bokeh Filter
Visual Arts — By Stephanie Nikolopoulos on October 4, 2009 at 12:00 pm
Fisheye is so yesterday. Today’s cool photography toy is The Bokeh Filter. This is seriously surreal. You know those blurry little orbs of light in the background of your photographs? Well, the Bokeh Filter transforms them into more magical elements, like stars or hearts.
The best part is you don’t need to buy a whole new camera for this. All you need is to purchase a filter that costs a little under $10. Okay, so actually each shape is sold separately, but that’s not really a bad price for a little whimsy.
The filter also works on most video cameras, too! You always felt your life was a dreamy cartoon, and now you’ll be able to capture the shooting stars and floating hearts and boinging spirals that you’ve always felt were around you, but never actually seen.

Well that’s nifty. I would love to see more articles on photography on Burnside…
I’m hoping you’ll get your wish. Also, you know that Powell’s art piece on our main page? That will be an art/photography section soon…
and you dont even need to buy, you can make one using stiff paper.
This technique spelled out above vignettes the light to promote aberrations that are beyond that of the spherical aberrations given off by the lens itself. It really has nothing to do with producing bokeh or defining the rest of the image with or without focus qualities.
