Across the Universe – January 15, 2010
Across the Universe, Editorial — By Sara Sterley on January 15, 2010 at 12:00 pmKeeping up with the news from Haiti has consumed much of my internetting this week, but a few other things stood out:
- I always look forward to Hearts and Minds’ best of lists – here’s part one of their picks for the best books of 2009 (they are offering a ten percent discount on all of the best of books too).
- Must reads on the earthquake in Haiti: World Next Door recently visited Haiti and is trying to get back to help (check out the pictures and articles from their recent trip), Donald Miller’s thoughts on Pat Robertson’s comments, and Tracy Kidder’s op-ed in the New York Times (if you haven’t read Mountains Beyond Mountains yet, hurry to your local bookstore and start reading).
- I missed the Brit Hume brouhaha last week, but I thought Ross Douthat argued convincingly in defense of a more public theological debate. And if you can’t get past Douthat’s crazy eyes, you’re not alone.
- Over at The Curator, Sarah Hanssen contemplates two of the year’s must-see movies: Precious and The Blind Side.
- This lesson in biblical innuendos isn’t for the faint of heart, but it’s interesting nonetheless (H/T Ryan Jones). Is it bad that I giggle every time I see “wiener” in print?
And, lastly, just because Cameron might be my favorite television character since George Michael and because I’m sure you could use a laugh:

If anyone would like to borrow my copy of Mountains Beyond Mountains in the Indianapolis area, you can…and you should if you haven’t read it yet. We’re talking about Haiti at Grace Community Church this weekend in Noblesville. If you want to know how you can respond, check out services this weekend or visit http://www.gracecc.org.
