Because Grace is the New Black

Yes, friendly Burnside readers, your trusty Associate Social Justice Editor had this wacky, harebrained idea the other day: Why not audition for Oprah’s search for the next talk show host?
I’ve known for a while that my only viable skills in life are talking and coming up with harebrained ideas. I think I figured this out during freshman Algebra class whilst doodling and consistently being reprimanded for chatting up my peers.
Finding a new outlet for my abilities, I learned to speak and come up with nutty ideas in foreign tongues (no, silly, not at church).
After mastering that, I began to write, which, as it turns out, is simply another variation of communicating and brainstorming. Really, I get to keep doing what I’m good at, just on paper, which is fantastic because now all of my wackiness is documented.
So, as one might naturally conclude, auditioning for my very OWN talk show is just a natural progression of my only viable skills: talking and cooking up harebrained ideas.
But behind all of my verbiage and innovation is a deep desire to connect to others. To you. It’s the reason I talk, the reason I write, no matter the language. It’s my schtick.
And now I want to use it to communicate GRACE.
GRACE, defined as the state of being protected and sanctified by the favor of God, has turned my life upside down. And I want us all to start living life like God actually likes us. So down with key steps and bullet points that breed inscurity in who God made us to be, always trying to improve upon what God made and called good! And up with GRACE, the paradigm shift that empowers and enables!
And now, without further adieu, dear Burnsiders, and with Editor-in-Chief Jordan’s blessing, I present to you:
Please feel free to click on that green VOTE button until the cows come home on Saturday, July 3rd. Let’s show Oprah that we want more grace in our lives.
And while we’re at it, I’d like to invite you to hop on over to my brand spanking new blog, yet another outlet for my communicative skills and quirky notions. Entitled Does God Like You? it’s to be an interactive forum for exploring the role of Grace in our lives. I hope you’ll join in!
Because Grace is the new black. Jesus said so, a really, really long time ago.

love the blog and idea, Kim! I will vote many times between now and Saturday!
Thanks, Sara! It’s greatly appreciated!
Yeah I’m sick of hearing Oprah’s voice. We need people on these talk shows talking about the really good stuff of life and I think the grace of God is one of the best. I will be voting to hear you talk about things much more worthwhile.
