O Lord of All Matter

Poetry — By on August 26, 2012 at 12:00 pm

Would your glory fill the whole earth.
Would it fill the ENTIRE EARTH,
the ENTIRE EARTH, Lord Jesus.

Would your Spirit move all things around.
Would your Spirit rustle everything –
Shuffle everything back to brand new.
Would you rearrange each atom
So that it embodies the essence
Of your
Pure
And Holy
And First intention.

Would you cause your own matter
To praise you in doing exactly what it is blueprinted to do:

Would your light find its way,
Each photon to its plant
Would your water move over the earth
Would it condense and fill the ground
Would your winds sweep the earth
Chasing depressurized ranges
Would your vines spiral toward your Sun
Would your deciduous trees shed their leaves
And each seed leave its pod
And would they hope for Spring

And I plead, O Lord of all matter,
That you would rearrange me too:

For my blood and bones are
Crawling toward death
And are already dying My
Flesh and sinew move them
Forward, ordered by empty
And mismatched neuronal patterns
They are wanting
And I am dying
And I am responsible

Would you cause your own matter
To praise you in doing exactly what it is blueprinted to do:

Would each baby open its mouth and cry
As it enters your world
Would your oxygen find its way
Into our veins
Would our muscles, though torn in exhaustion
Grow stronger in their adversity
Would you so shape our interpersonal interactions
That we would understand the deepest
Mystery of your compassionate love
In the most basal networks of our
Emotional memory
Would you make us alive in Your Earth.

And would that part of me -
Would that mismatched part of me –
Would that mismatched maimed disarranged perverse
Disdained rebellious profane part of me
Die.

And would your glory fill the whole earth
Would it fill the ENTIRE EARTH
THE ENTIRE EARTH, Lord Jesus.
